Recently, I posted an InDesign template for a one sided, 4 picture model comp card. If you’re trying to save some money on printing costs, going one sided might help. But, typically, a model’s comp or zed card is a 2-sided, 5.5″ x 8.5″ card.
So, if you want to go the more traditional route and print a 2-sided card, here’s a quick and simple InDesign template to help get you started.
The image to the right is an example of what it looks like completed.
You can download the file here: Basic Two Page Comp Card (IDML). The file is an IDML file and it should (hopefully) be compatible with any version of InDesign after and including CS4.
It’s a pretty generic design with nothing fancy. There are five image frames. The largest frame is meant to hold a headshot or a similarly close and detailed portrait. This page also includes a text frame for the model’s name. You should extend the width of that frame so that it’s large enough to hold the model’s name.
The other four image frames are on the back side. These are smaller image frames of roughly equal size. However the top two are a little taller, because the text cuts off the two frames on the bottom. I like to try and match things visually on the card to create some symmetry, so notice how the crop is very similar in the top-right / bottom-left photos and the top-left / bottom-right photos.
Finally, at the bottom on the back of the card is a text frame for the model’s stats. I included a spot for the traditional stats as well as some normal contact information. However, you’ll probably want to customize this a little bit. Some people will want to list a website, while other’s might list an Instagram handle, and others might just list a phone number.
Images in the sample comp card are by Olinda Gibbons Photography. They are from the 2011 William Paterson Fashion Show.
